Sensei Burns Gilbert

Sensei Burns Gilbert is the Instructor for the Academy of Shotokan Martial Arts’ Gulf Coast Dojo in Pass Christian, Mississippi. He began his martial arts training in Judo and Jiu Jistsu under his father, Lee Gilbert as a child. In 1980, he began his training in Shotokan Karate with Senseis John Hiebert, and Robey Reed. Along with traditional Japanese Karate, Sensei Gilbert obtained proficiency in Goshen Jitsu and Kendo, as well as furthering his study of Judo. In 1984, he joined the Army and further honed his combat training.

Sensei Gilbert is honored to continue his personal instruction under the tutelage of Shihan Rick Montgomery (Academy of Shotokan martial Arts) originally from Fayetteville, North Carolina and currently residing in Spokane, Washington.
